Determining if you are eligible for renewal
- Current Certification
Current AOCNS® certification - Active License
A current, active, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the US, its territories, or Canada at the time of application and examination. - 1,000 Hours of Practice
A minimum of 1,000 hours of practice in roles of the clinical nurse specialist in adult oncology within the four years (48 months) prior to application
Application Information
Beginning in January 2025, you’ll be asked for the last four digits of your social security number and your National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) ID number when you renew your certification. ONCC will use your NCSBN ID and the last four digits of your social security number to confirm your licensure. Your social security digits will not be stored in our system.
To obtain your NSCBN ID:
- Go to https://nursys.com
- Use the QuickConfirm Option and click on Look Up License
- Agree to Disclaimers and Terms and Conditions
- Search for your NCSBN ID by License Number (preferred) or by Name
- Follow the instructions on screen
- Verify the information returned is you; the NCSBN ID appears on screen
- Make a note of this number so you can enter it during the application process.
Renewal Requirements
- You are required to earn 50 points in adult oncology.
- Testing is not an option for renewal of AOCNS®.
Renewal Deadlines
- Renewal applications and completed learning plans are due several months before your certification expires.
- September 15 (of year certification expires): Early-bird application deadline (Save $100 off final deadline fee)
- October 15 (of year certification expires): Final application deadline date.
- March 31 (of year after credential expiration): Final Reinstatement application deadline date.
